Solving the Texas Teachers Shortage

There is a program available that is solving the shortage of teachers that have their Texas Teacher Certification and it is a program called Uteach. This program was developed about 5 years ago at The University of Texas in Austin.

How it works is it allows undergraduates who are getting majors in either Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences to discover if teaching would be a rewarding career choice.

The great benefit to this program is it allows the would be teacher to see the direct impact he or she can have on children and at the same time help solve the teachers shortage in Texas.

The stat for the shortage of teachers is very alarming, it has been documented that one in five teachers that are teaching in the public school system are teaching well outside their areas of training.

And the classes that are most effected are English, foreign languages, math, social studies and science.

Best Head Lice Home Remedies

What are the best home remedies for head lice? You have probably heard of the olive oil or mayonnaise treatment. Here’s how it works:

Use either olive oil or mayonnaise and apply it liberally through all of your hair right down to the scalp. Put a shower cap over the whole mess and leave it on for about half an hour. The idea is that this treatment suffocates all adult lice. All that’s left to do now is to comb out the lice eggs, the “nits”, with a special, very fine toothed lice comb.

The National Pediculosis Association recommends no special treatment at all but rather using either tweezers or a lice comb to remove all the nits regularly.

Combing out all the nits takes a long time, and you have to do it every day for many days in a row.

An alternative home remedy is neem oil. Use it just like you would use olive oil. The additional benefit of neem oil is that it not only suffocates the lice. The active ingredients in the oil also prevent any lice eggs from hatching. And last but not least, lice hate the smell of neem oil.

Keep using neem shampoo after your initial oil treatment, and you’ll never have any headlice problems again.

My Incredible Expereince with the HHOF

I had just placed the hockey jerseys I just bought for my sons into my wheeled backpacks and took one look back at the hockey Hall of Fame, before I started down the street back to the car. For me it was a dream come true visiting the hall, and I learned a great deal while I was there. I have to say the most interesting part about the hockey Hall of Fame, is the fact that where they keep the Stanley Cup is in an old bank vault, and you really get a sense of history while you are there walking on the old wooden floors. However, the most interesting thing believe it or not, isn’t the trophies or other memorabilia they have there, but the fact that this bank is supposedly haunted as well. It really adds a lot of intrigue to the hockey Hall of Fame, and I highly suggest that if you are big hockey fan that you need to visit it at least once in your life.

Keeping My Apartment Clean is Tricky

I have been trying to figure out the best ways to keep my apartment clean and I’m finding that it’s nearly impossible to keep up on the floors with the cats that I have living with me. These guys drop fur all over the place and it’s pretty amazing that I’m able to keep up with the cleaning as much as I do.

And don’t even get me started on the cat accidents where they use the carpet instead of the litter box.

What has made my life a lot easier? I started to realize the benefits of carpet steam cleaners and I think that is going to be the thing that helps me to keep my carpets clean. I have been using one that I borrowed from a friend and I find that it is a very appealing machine since it can deep clean the bad spots on the carpet very easily and help restore the look of it all. It’s pretty nice actually.

Compost Tumblers Are They Worth It

After many years of making my own compost with varying results, I was given a Tumbleweed compost tumbler as a birthday present, I know, it is an odd thing to buy somebody for there birthday but let me tell you, it is one of the best presents that I have ever been given. On reflection, I have spent many hours turning and mixing compost and I have to say it’s not the job that I enjoy the most, smelly,slippery and back breaking. And yes you do end up with compost of sorts, but you also end up with a lot of stuff that hasn’t broken down properly and needs to go back onto the heap for a bit longer.

With the tumbleweed tumbler you have a vertical tumbler that does turn over quite easily, there is a door at both ends that means you don’t have to be bothered about which way up it is, you can both fill and empty from both ends, a very simple to use composter that gets my recommendation.

There is a nearby Meth Rehab in our area and it is there where my friend’s father got treated. I got curious so I searched online about what Meth is and here’s what I found out.

  • Meth also suppresses hunger but the user is often thirsty
  • Meth reached its highest popularity in the 1990’s

I also found out that it is the hardest addiction to treat, according to experts. They also say that women are more prone to get addicted to Meth than Heroin or Cocaine.
